Gee, more geomorphs (1)

I've recently been playing around with Dave's Mapper and getting inspired. There are geomorphs everywhere so it's hard not to, and many are getting very inventive. The mapper has a list of contributors on the left and those are blogs you can find good stuff.

I started doodling and had a play to see if I could produce a similar effect, and it went much better than I'd expected. I'm pleased enough I'll happily make them public, and let anyone who thinks they're useful use them.

I don't now much about the technical aspects of the approach being taken, but I estimated the spacing of a standard tile side and assumed this: one unit from the first corner to the first entrance; half a unit for the entrance; two units to the next entrance; half a unit for that entrance; one unit to the corner. If this is out, I'd be glad of correction.

I started small, with quarters of the standard tile size, and I wanted maximum flexibility at the beginning so all four entrances are used. I tried to keep it as unusual as I could based on what I'd seen so far, but the first is a common idea, a feature of many maps, passages crossing at different heights.

The next is an attempt to link all entrances in a fresh way, but it could have been done.

The third is a larger open space which can be seen as an approach to a grand space if moving from our bottom up, or as a back route out if moving from our top down.

The fourth is an attempt at an unconventional junction, and this one ought to be more easily defensible than usual to whoever or whatever holds it. I also like the idea of it as a high point in the complex, open to the sky, maybe an observation platform.

Anyone who wants to use these can of course. Again, if anyone can clarify the technical aspects I'd be grateful. I've got a few more doodles I could convert, but if I did, it would be good to have the largest number of players benefit. I've also got my mind hard at work on how the range of exterior tiles could be added to, post-apocalyptic or otherwise.

Geomorphs are a good deal of fun! I use to have the dungeon terrain geomorphs from AD&D. I like the way that you are going with this! Feel free to use my yahoo group to share it out!
