Deep jungle, caverns and fear

More pics to go with the images of crystals and that set of sinkholes - some possible inspiration for what could be at the bottom, for terrain in gaming and fiction in general.

Read this quote at Riskail then ponder how the bolts in the 10th pic might be seen in the future. Think Greg Gorgonmilk's crawlspace world at Zalchis and look at the 12th.

I've been caving, but nowhere like this, and seeing the views now I've got the hankering. If you caverncrawl, I recommend trying it, for the sensations - the humid air, the smell of the sediments, cold rock, winding squeezes and the total darkness with lamps off.

It's not only the size in this case, but the range of spaces. We know cave networks have ecosystems, but usually less visibly than this. How much underground is not yet found?

For ideas NetherWerks have resources with that visceral feel, and DM Muse has their table too. Underworld Kingdom has a series with cavern art linked up to DeviantArt.

At risk of sensationalising, I'll try some fiction for Flash Fearsday, in 140 characters.

The princess and the pea? Mattresses..? I sleep over layers of soil, regolith and bedrock and still I hear them, their ceaseless industry...

It's weekly at Lunching on Lamias - anyone can join in, at a blog or in the comments.

A long long time ago when the world was flat, I directed a short play of the Princess and the Pea for our family. Three of my little cousins played in it and we had a hoot of fun.

Happy Weekend :-)

It's a great fairy tale, an odd reality with depths to ponder.

The flat earth suggestion doesn't seem too far out either. Not in terms of your age, but the age we live in. That kind of performance seems to be out of fashion, which is a real pity. Putting on small-scale, casual plays strikes me as a very positive activity for all kinds of skills. Maybe there's an equivalent these days I'm not seeing?

Happy weekend to you too. I'll be getting some sun and with luck some more work done on the game. I hope you have something cool planned.

If the Princess and the Pea had taken place in America, the mattress company would have been forced to pay her millions in compensation for a poor night's sleep.

Hope you got some sun. I've been mostly in doors working on stuff and farting about.

The production we did was a comedy. We had a great deal of fun and the kids were fantastic. They had an area where they were given ad lib space and it was hoot.

Have a groovy day :-)

@ Bartender - Now you've got me thinking how else the idea might update. We could probably do with some simple tests like this today, for the nature of our modern betters...

@ The Happy Whisk - Not enough sun, but I got the work done I hoped I would, which is a very rare thing. I need to keep that inertia. A groovy day to you too!
