Hex 5: warren; construct

Here's another hex in Sector V3 on Kepler-22B, a shared wordbuilding project for gaming. To get a sector, read this. My material uses this label.

Hex 99.74  The algal mat grows thick in the sea here. At the surface it rises to a rolling summit from which distant shores are visible. Below the level of the waves it hangs to a great depth and contains a warren-like network of gas-filled passages and chambers, many traversed by keratinous arachnoids apparently performing specialised functions.

Constrictive openings of varying dimensions abound on the outer surfaces, presumably operating to regulatory cycles where not responding to environmental stimuli or contact with occupants. The more northerly of the submerged portals open into filtration media.

Centrally located close to the base of the network and in the most mature section is a largely inorganic construct, approximately rectangular with an offset centre of mass and four short extensions. This is enclosed entirely within a dense form of algal matter linked to a web of transmission structures and tended by a swarm of smaller creatures.
