Skirmishers breaking out

I don't know much about Freeblades, but it seems to be a middle fantasy skirmish game bordering on a tactical RPG, with plenty of good miniatures. This video at the Blue Table Painting channel is a clear look at how it plays, although with no real info on the setting.

I'll be honest and say the terrain interests me more, and actually makes me want to dig out something that's a little more sword and sorcery, like Andy Hoare's Get the Girl, Kill the Baddies. As a ruleset it's relaxed, and grows in the mind for the clever simplicity and a sense of wide open worlds. The current draft is free to download and open to feedback.

And on the subject of that skirmish-RPG space, it's the last few days of the Wreck-Age Kickstarter. Wreck-Age looks like it might go further that way, and has a relatively fresh trigger for its post-apocalyptic setting and solid miniatures. Brian is posting on a few of the factions at A Gentleman's Ones - the Stakers and Hy Plains Drifters are up so far.

Updates: And now the third, the Reclaimers, and the fourth, the Stitchmen.

We've had lots of fun with Song of Blades and Heroes in the past for a lot of the same reasons you've listed here. As for 'Get the Girl..." thanks for the tip, headed over there now.

I've heard so much good about Song of Blades and Heroes there's always an eye open for a chance to try it. I had a quick refresher in Get the Girl yesterday and wasn't disappointed. It's oozing space and has a fun, tea-and-biscuits British gaming mood.
