The Codex Project...

Attention all Warhammer 40,000 fans!

You almost certainly have an interest in this.

If you don't have time to read the whole text, just go straight to the fourth paragraph, the one beginning: "So we have created..." That's the reasoning and intent in a shell casing.

Big Jim at Galaxy in Flames will put up more on the project later this week.

Nice post, really!

@ Texas Land Sales - I'm taking it all as true. Good luck finding those sales.

@ John Lambshead - I want to believe the guys behind it have cast-iron coverage. We all know what the implications are, and they surely took that into account. Re Snails, I'll watch and learn. World-class molecular biologist, novelist and gamer, and now I see you do security. I'll leave the comment up to showcase your approach. Next time he'll get deleted.

@ Lexington - I can't help thinking that with projects like Killzone and now TCP, GW is getting free R&D. If it works, it ought to be adopted, and the key people praised.

@ p - Thanks.

That's a cool idea. Loooking forward to reading the fan fiction.

@Porky - Well, you've seen me rant about my thoughts on GW's R&D process (or lack thereof). I kinda doubt we'll see change coming from that direction, if only because improving the game isn't in the company's interest.

At the same time, I'm thrilled to see a major, organized effort to do independent development work for 40K material. The rise of the "tournament" 40K attitude has done a lot to discourage people from deviating from the product as released. It'd be nice to see large-scale public proof that gamers can do their own thing without flubbing it horribly. :)

Sounds excellent, will be looking forward to this.

@ Bartender & The Angry Lurker - Me too. By giving access to more of the potential it can only enrich the hobby. More ideas means more interest, and more interest means more models sold. Everyone wins.

@ Lexington - Your final paragraph sums up my views very well. I'm excited to see what comes out of it, and to think experimentation within the framework of the game world will be encouraged and better supported as a result.

If it helps me get my genestealer cult back in play, it'll be worth it!

Genestealer cults could be one of the real winners from this, and bigger than ever - just look at how much of a place Aliens has in the collective imagination these days. And think what other gems from the history of the game could gleam again.
