Hello, little beastie... - Living table (1) - Entries 31-50

Here are some more entries for the Small Creatures table at the Expanse and DM Muse. They're ideas for using wee beasties in gaming and writing, non-system-specific.

There are 20 extra, making a total of 50. Rolling a D50 isn't practical, but DM Muse can handle that. The tables are alive so you can add your own ideas.

There are two more tables up now as well, Nasty Mutations and Stronghold Favors, nine altogether. If you want to create a completely new table of your own, you can.

I've also added a small creature to the 'blog your own adventure' project. The scene is here, and the beginning of the adventure here. I'll write a later instalment today...

C'nor at Lunching at Lamias has also combined a few rolls on the table to create some more complex creatures, which you can find here.

And re tables, check this out - some ideas there for the What's in the Tome project. Desert Scribe also has this fun table for non-critical hit damage in starship combat.

The new entries then.

  1. This creature is able to spit acid over a great distance and will do so at the earliest intimation of danger.
  2. As a defence, this creature wreathes its body in fire, and it may direct tongues of flame at potential threats as a warning; if approached, it will attempt to set light to a flammable material and thus cover its escape.
  3. This tentacled creature holds prey fast; if the victim does not free itself rapidly, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  4. This fast-moving and dextrous creature attempts to snatch an object and escape to a secure location nearby; if successful and pursued, and an attempt is made to access the location, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  5. This creature secretes a fluid which will be found to be a fast-acting poison; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  6. This creature secretes a fluid which will be found to be reduce pain and accelerate healing; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  7. This creature secretes a fluid which will be found to be an effective adhesive; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  8. This creature warps the fabric of reality within a certain radius, bringing good fortune to all within.
  9. This creature warps the fabric of reality within a certain radius, bringing misfortune to all within.
  10. Although unable to communicate, this creature is able to grant a single limited wish.
  11. This creature is in fact a mighty being in disguise, and will make its true identity known at the proper time.
  12. This creature is able to assume the form of small objects of a similar mass; if disturbed, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  13. This rather unattractive creature is the unfortunate victim of a transformative force and will attempt to communicate this; if not assisted, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  14. This creature is able to mimic sounds, including short spoken phrases, and does so frequently. In addition, it has a highly informative range of phrases memorised.
  15. This highly intelligent creature is able to converse fluently and has a moderate knowledge of the surrounding area.
  16. This creature is the guardian of a secret location; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  17. The creature is in fact a spy, perhaps unwittingly, for a more powerful individual; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as no additional effect.
  18. This creature is at this very moment being used as bait by a hunter.
  19. This insubstantial creature is being projected from a distant location, perhaps even a location beyond the boundaries of this world; if approached, roll again on this table, treating the same result as the opening of a portal to that location.
  20. This psychedelic creature is in fact a hallucination.

Again, if you can add to this, or add a completely new table, go do it.

That's a nice list of creature ideas. I going to think on it and see if I have anything to add.

I look forward to anything you come up with. My imagination and the weirdness it can produce are slight beside yours.
