Fundamental laws of a fictional universe (3)

Linked with the ongoing and perhaps endless discussion of breaking the mould, if you're a 40K player - and especially a 40K roleplayer - you might be interested in what JB at B/X BLACKRAZOR has to say on Stars Without Number.

On the subject of settings, but fantasy, and for D&D in particular, I direct you to some thoughts on essences at the stimulating Gorgonmilk. Have a good look around the blog while you're there - it's a breeding ground for the less than usual.

As for the fundamental laws of fiction, here's another card for the deck. The first two are here, and the next here. The latest is to get some interaction going among the cards themselves. There's no copyright on this either for the same reason as before.

I found Stars Without Number over at Tenkar's Tavern and I liked it so much I downloaded it immediately. I was stunned at how much I liked it, since it was Fantasy AND Sci-fi at the same time, both of which I really don't enjoy at all. I never connected the dots to the 40K/DH feel.

Thanks for the nice words, Porky. Poor Tim usually has to wait to eat, because I'm always shooting something.

@ ArmChairGeneral - If you mean the design, it just seemed like the right colour. We can think of it as an attempt at encouraging pink among tough guy gamers. Kirby's with me.

@ Loquacious - The essential unity of fantasy and sci-fi has taken me a long time to get, but it's some of the blogs out here that have really convinced me. Time to throw down the barriers that divide us! I'm not sure of the Stars Without Number / 40K connection, but we know the ideas that underpin 40K are not unique to it. It's a happy thought that setting might be less in the materials and more in the mind, and that we can carry much of a favourite with us into another system, if we choose to of course.

@ The Happy Whisk - I'm sure you mean the pictures, and that you're not out hunting the meal. Then again, I can imagine you lasso in hand, Wonder Woman style, crouched in the undergrowth. Another talent would be no surprise.
