Alien overlords and would-be masters
I followed up a memory today and rediscovered The Tripods, a BBC series based on the novels by John Christopher. I still appreciate it more than the critics in the last video did.
A blast from the past, I feel old but the special effects now were a laugh but at the time were amazing, what as gamers we could have used these peoples knowledge for on our tables. They were geniuses with cardboard and plastic.
I feel old and young watching it now - it still feels fresh, even timeless, and it seems to me the guests in the final video have missed the trick. The first to hold forth by the way is Brian Aldiss.
On the modelling, I'll agree - the work they did back then is still something to aspire to. And I didn't realise Blue Peter was so well known outside the UK. It was pretty good in those days too.
