Fire in the sky

What a great custom this is. Inspiring stuff, even before we get to fictional uses. It's for the central and eastern European Ivan Kupala Day, or the Feast of St John the Baptist.

Poland is a country to miss. I feel for all the Poles pushed overseas throughout history, for all the unwilling diasporas in fact.

Someone clicked 'Say again?' for this post. Here I can't help so much. We need to read into the custom what we can. The link mentions the tradition of floating wreaths, for the purity and fertility associated with water and maybe the bonds it brings; I'd guess this is a development of that.
